New Satellite Monitoring Flags Forest Loss Near Key Habitats

CAWI has begun incorporating satellite forest-loss alerts into its ranger patrol planning, helping teams identify and respond to encroachment near protected habitats days faster than before.

The pilot program flagged several areas of concern near the Kisangani corridor in its first month, prompting an immediate patrol deployment.

Combined with community reporting, the monitoring system gives rangers an early warning tool that was previously out of reach for a field team of this size.
