Historic Milestone: CAWI Secures Habitat Protection for Critical Gorilla Population

After three years of community advocacy and ranger partnerships, CAWI has secured formal protected status for a critical forest corridor home to one of the region's last stable mountain gorilla populations.

The designation restricts logging and unregulated hunting across the corridor and funds an expanded ranger patrol presence, cutting response times to reported poaching activity.

Local communities were central to the campaign, with village councils voting to support the protection in exchange for continued investment in humane education and farm animal welfare programs.
